Memento Mori Necklace

Each necklace is handmade with an image taken from our personal Carte de Visite collection.

Memento Mori is Latin for "remember [that you have] to die", and is the medieval Latin theory and practice of reflection on mortality, to consider the vanity of earthly life and to contemplate the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

In art, memento mori are artistic and/or symbolic reminders of mortality. The Medieval and Victorian periods were very much so concerned with this, the thought of mortality coming into its own through the introduction of Christianity, where the emphasis was strongly on divine judgment, Heaven, Hell and the salvation of the Soul after death.
