Scorpion Symbolism:

* Sex
* Control
* Transition
* Death
* Passion
* Treachery
* Protection
* Defensiveness
* Solitary

The most potent message that the Scorpion displays to us is that of protection. As an entity they are quite solitary in nature. They will mate in a very exotic dance of passion, beauty and control. The very genetic make up of the scorpion shows us it is defensive, protective and controlling, their outward appearance telling others "do not mess with me." The scorpion's tale has the infamous venomous tip which is another symbol of protection.

Often the scorpion is associated with the sun, with ancient stories and writings depicting half Scorpion half man guarding sacred gateways which lead to the ultimate ascension, through which ultimate pleasure and enlightenment is obtained - as in ancient Samaria.

In Greek and Roman mythology the Scorpion symbolises death; Artemis/Diana used the Scorpion to sting the foot of Orion and Zeus/Jupiter made the Scorpion a zodiac sign among the stars.

Egypt and Tibet see the Scorpion as an omen and oftentimes the Scorpion is made into an amulet which signifies protection and wards off evil. [See our very own Scorpions in Amber Pendants!]

Africa sees the Scorpion as a healing sign - the venomous oil from a Scorpion's tip can be used for medicinal purposes.
